“Soren had on Monday moved a petition seeking more time to appear before the EC in the case, citing that his legal representative was unwell. The EC, in a written communication, has asked him to appear on June 28,” JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya told TOI.
EC officials said Soren was given an ultimatum while being granted an additional two weeks. “The EC said this was the last extension… If he fails to appear on the next date, the EC will proceed on the basis of written submissions and records that have been submitted to it,” an official said. Soren was served a notice by the EC on May 2 based on a February 11 complaint by the Jharkhand unit of BJP, which alleged that he had violated Section 9(A) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and had misused his office to allot a stone mining lease to himself over land measuring 0. 88 acre in Ranchi’s Angara block in September 2021.
