Jamiat: UP government bulldozer action extra-judicial | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Movingtwo applications in the same petition, Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind sought action against Prayagraj officials responsible for demolition of houses of alleged rioters in violation of municipal la ws, which required a 15-day prior notice followed by a30-day window for filing of appeal by the aggrieved person facing demolition of his property. It also sought stoppage of further demolition drives again st properties of riotaccused.
It said the UP government’s action was extra-judicial and in violation of principles of natural justice. It said the demolition drive was more alarming as it was resorted to despite SC being seized of the petition seeking stoppage of earlier similar drives against rioters initiated by UP, MP and Gujarat governments.
Following the riots at Prayagraj, the a dministration had used bulldozers to demolish the property of one of the alleged main con-
spirators, Javed Mohammad aka Javed Pump. Police have so far named around 100 accused and thousands of unnamed persons in three FIRs for last week’s protests. The Prayagraj Development Authority is preparing a list of properties of the riot accused booked under Gangster Act and NSA.
